The Griswold Manufacturing Company was in business in Erie, Pennsylvania from 1865 to the 1950ís. They made various cast iron cookwares that are now very collectible pieces. Their wares included skillets, kettles and roasters. Some quick facts about Griswold according to Pamela Wiggins of About.com include:
v Griswold was produced from 1865 through the late 1950s.
v The first mark used was simply "Erie."
v Numbers on the back of pieces indicate the size.
v Pieces produced after the company was sold in 1957 are not considered to be reproductions.
v Vintage Griswold cast iron can be used and enjoyed without worry of damage.
